Wizards of the World is fully committed to the gaming industry and plans to release 1-2 games per year
Wizards is making a big push into its video game business and plans to release one or two new games a year in order to achieve its goal of becoming a digital game company.
Wizards President and CEO Chris Cocks revealed the company's gaming strategy during Hasbro's Q2 2024 earnings call. They have hired veteran executive John Hight and plan to invest around $125 million per year in game development, with the goal of releasing one or two games per year by late 2025 or early 2026.
"We are fully committed to being a digital games company," said Mr. Cocks. "We have about $250 million a year in capital investment, about half of which is dedicated to digital games. We aim to release one or two new games a year from late 2025 or early 2026."
Wizards will take a balanced approach to building its games portfolio, including partnerships, joint ventures and internal investments. At the same time, the company has 150 active or developing licensed game projects.
Chris Cocks believes that Wizards' collaboration with the best partners in the industry is essential to expand concessions and enter new areas. "I don't think it's an accident that we're the number one licensee in the space," he says. "I think we'll end up being the top publisher in games and we'll take our time and do well."
